He was awarded the prize on October 16 as his new release the album was named the top album of the past year.

Fender has opted to donate the funds to the trust, in appreciation of the crucial part grassroots venues played in his initial steps.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing this success if it weren't for all the shows I did around the North East, and beyond, when I was just getting going," stated Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these spaces have shut down – approximately one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Recently, major artists like the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which supports local stages.

He also joined in, generating over £100k on his recent tour to support thirty-eight grassroots venues across the UK.

These funds helped spaces that were facing possible closure due to difficulties stemming from flooding, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Some locations were granted financial assistance in upgrading facilities and gear that positively impacted artists and fans.

"The notion that revenue from shows in big venues supports the local stages, where it all starts for performers like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has said.

"The victory was quite enough," stated singer Small. "The money was the cherry on top but we could do without the bonus, because we had the main prize. So our winning impacted the lives of others."

Recently, the trust revealed it had saved two grassroots venues in south-east England, by bringing them into public stewardship.

One venue in that area and the second in the city were bought under the community ownership program, which is backed by the arts council and music fans who buy "ownership units" in the venues.
